When choosing a red meat meal, its not too heavy and whose flavor is balanced, then your ideal wine, would be to accompany a Pinot Noir / Merlot.          

               

But, if you serve a strong robust dish, having lots of fat and heavier, then you will have a very intense meal and then you should opt for a Cabernet Sauvignon.
